The closures started in the first week of July. The playground at Heights of Jupiter Park closed on July 6, and Jupiter Community Center Park and Abacoa Community Park closed over the next few days. That took three of the town's busiest play areas offline for the summer. The Palm Beach Post said all three would stay closed until fall.
Fall has arrived. The Town has set ribbon cuttings at all three parks within five days of each other. The more useful news for anyone who lives near a Jupiter park sits behind those ceremonies. These three reopenings are one step in a playground rotation the Town published years in advance. That rotation already shows which play areas close next, and in which year.
Three Ribbon Cuttings in Five Days
On October 1, the Town Clerk posted public notices for each ceremony. All three start at 4 p.m.
- Thursday, October 8: Community Center Playground, 200 Military Trail.
- Friday, October 9: Heights of Jupiter Park, 15215 East Revelle Circle.
- Monday, October 12: Abacoa Community Park, 1501 Frederick Small Road.
In early September, JupiterDaily reported the Town Manager's update that most of the new equipment was already in and artificial turf installation would start the following week. At that point the Town expected all three playgrounds to reopen in early October. The ceremonies are still scheduled events as of this week. The surest way to know a playground is open is the Town's own announcement on the day.
Council Member Malise Sundstrom described the projects this way in that update:
"We are thrilled to see these playgrounds coming together. The new features will offer our community more engaging and safer recreational spaces."
What Went In Over the Summer
The three playgrounds were planned as a set, and the shared spec appears in the Town's documents. The Palm Beach Post listed new shade structures, play equipment for children of different abilities, and artificial turf for all three sites. In July, the Town Council approved more than $375,000 in work orders for the three sites. That money covered chain-link fencing, landscaping, irrigation and a chilled-water fountain.
The rendering sheets the Town posted this spring show more detail for each park:
- Heights of Jupiter Park: Equipment from Landscape Structures, with REP Services named on the drawings. The sheet calls for "Playground Colors: Palette CF" and "Shade Fabric Color: Denim FR." It also shows upgraded safety surfacing and more shaded play area than the old layout.
- Jupiter Community Center Playground: Also Landscape Structures and REP Services. JupiterDaily described equipment meant for a wider range of ages, better accessibility and new gathering spaces.
- Abacoa Community Park: Landscape Structures again, with WGI on the drawings. The sheet labels a "PlayShaper" structure and a communication board. JupiterDaily listed updated climbing structures, modern slides, shade canopies and accessible play features.
Two town-wide standards apply here as well. The Town says every new Jupiter playground is designed to be inclusive and has swings for children of all ages and abilities. The turf is a product called PlayGround Turf 55, which the Town says is certified PFAS-free. Because of that shared spec, a playground rebuilt in 2025 and one rebuilt this year should have the same basic features.
The $6.8 Million Runs on a Five-Year Clock
The $6.8 million in the July headlines pays for a five-year playground renovation and replacement program. It is not this summer's construction budget. WPTV reported the full schedule in May 2025, more than a year before this summer's closures. The Post linked this summer's closures to that same multi-year upgrade across Town facilities.
Here is the published schedule, with each site's status as of early October 2026:
| Year | Playgrounds on the schedule | Status as of October 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| 2025 | Indian Creek Park Phase I, Jupiter Community Park, Maplewood Park | Completed in 2025 |
| 2026 | Abacoa, Heights of Jupiter, Miracle Moment Park Playground at the Community Center | Ribbon cuttings October 8, 9 and 12 |
| 2026 | Daily Park | Work set to start in early September, finish targeted by end of 2026 |
| 2026 to 2027 | Indian Creek Phase II, with splash pad and restroom | Timing differs by source |
| 2027 | FIND, Jupiter Village | Scheduled |
| 2028 | Old Town Hall, Lighthouse | Scheduled |
| 2029 | Officer Bruce St. Laurent | Scheduled |
Sources give different totals for the program. The Town's FAQ describes replacing 11 playgrounds in Town parks, while 2025 news coverage put it at 12 of the Town's 13. Either way, the program covers nearly every Town playground, and each closure on the list has a year next to it.
That changes how this summer's closures read. Heights, Abacoa and the Community Center closed together because the Town scheduled all three for the same year. The next closures are already on the calendar and can be planned around.
Which Playground Closes Next
Daily Park is the next site in line. JupiterDaily called it the fourth playground scheduled for replacement this year, with work expected to start in late summer and finish by the end of 2026. JupiterDaily's September update, which spells the park "Daley," said work there was set to begin in early September. If that start held, Daily Park will be under construction while Heights, Abacoa and the Community Center reopen.
Indian Creek Park has the least certain timeline. Phase I was finished in 2025. The Town's FAQ lists Phase II, with a splash pad and a new restroom building, for 2026. JupiterDaily's July 2026 summary puts the splash pad in 2027 and lists the restroom as still to come. Until the Town posts a construction notice, the splash pad is planned and undated.
FIND Park and Jupiter Village follow in 2027. Old Town Hall and Lighthouse are set for 2028, and Officer Bruce St. Laurent for 2029. These later years are the furthest from construction and the most likely to move. Still, a family near FIND Park can see 2027 on the schedule now.
The Rest of the Reopening Week
The ribbon cuttings fall in one of Jupiter's busiest stretches on the fall calendar. Most of the events below also cater to families.
- Saturday, October 10, 9 a.m. to noon: Els for Autism hosts its free, sensory-inclusive FALLoween Festival at The Els Center of Excellence, 18370 Limestone Creek Road. Registration is open.
- Saturday, October 10, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.: The 10th annual Pumpkin Fest, a Chasin A Dream Foundation fundraiser, takes place at Harbourside Place.
- Tuesday, October 13, 6 to 8 p.m.: National Night Out 2026, including a community parade, is on the Town calendar.
- Sunday, October 18, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.: Coco Market Jupiter returns to the Seabreeze Amphitheater at Carlin Park. The Town calendar lists it as the first market of the Jupiter season after the summer break.
Between Friday, October 9 and Monday, October 12, the Heights ribbon cutting, the two Saturday events and the Abacoa ceremony all fall within four days, followed by National Night Out on Tuesday.
The next date is in November. The ninth annual Jupiter Golden Jubilee runs November 6 and 7, with the Friday event at Harbourside Place's amphitheater from 5 to 7 p.m. Organizers say the parade plans are still being finalized. By then, Daily Park should be partway through its construction window.
